The story is of a narrative format, narrated by a young sixteen-year-old girl named Hazel Grace Lancaster. She is suffering from the fourth stage lung cancer. Hazel used to stay aloof and had taken furiously into reading “The Imperial Affliction,” a novel written by Peter Van Houten, a resident of Amsterdam. The novel is about a girl named Anna who just like Hazel is fighting cancer. Hazel’s mother compels her into joining a support group. Initially, she is reluctant but joining the support group turns out to be a blessing in disguise for Hazel as she meets a seventeen-year-old boy named Augustus Waters and they fall in love with each other. Augustus is a survivor and is attending the support group for his friend Isaac. The story proceeds with both of them fighting with the miserable disease. There are immense love and affection and a tinge of humour too. The conclusion to the novel is unexpected and leaves the reader musing by himself.

John Green has constructed a beautiful story from the ominous disease, cancer. His work brings out the message that positivity and happiness can bloom in any circumstance if the heart is content. The quotes used by the author are alluring and thought-provoking. After the novel’s release, every person who had read it was keen to express his feelings through John Green’s quotes and the trend has not stopped yet.

A year after the release of the novel, it was adapted as a movie which was relished by people all over the world. Yet again, the book turns out to be superior to the movie because of the attractive language used by the author. Reading The Fault in Our Stars is a totally different experience as it gives the reader goosebumps while reading. Every minute detail has been beautifully explained and every little emotion is depicted with great intricacy.

It is a suggestion to all the young readers out there to surely try out this piece of work, and once you begin, there is no escape.
