“We read to know we’re not alone.”
― William Nicholson
But sometimes this might turn a bit appalling while reading a frightening novel. Yes! This is about Goosebumps!
For all the children out there who are heads over heels in love with the genre horror and who would love to read books filled with spooky and spine-chilling incidents, Goosebumps series is the best choice ever. The best part is that there are so many! Thanks to Robert Lawrence Stine, the author of the Goosebumps series. The first book of the Goosebumps series, Welcome to Dead House was published in July 1992.
From the year 1992-1997, 62 books were published. These are called the original Goosebumps series. After 1997, there have been many publications under name of various sub-series like The Horrorland series, The Goosebumps 2000 series etc. R.L. Stine has written over 300 books till date and more than 400 million Goosebumps copies have been sold. Also, it has been translated into over 35 languages. Various novels of this series were included in the New York Times Bestseller list for children.
These novels are specially meant for children. Adults might find the story not so scary but it can be called an ultimate book for children. Along with the scary portion, the plot created by the author in each and every book is impeccable. There are not just ghosts, but there are zombies, vampires, werewolves and what not. Considering the basic plot, the novels involve children of normal families, who due to their inquisitiveness find out some kind of secrets or encounter mysterious creatures or things. These children end up getting stuck in a lot of trouble but by using their brain and by being smart, device solutions to the problems. They help themselves and their friends to come out clear of the darkness that has overshadowed them. Sometimes the conclusion can be tragic as well. It is unpredictable.
Each novel holds a different story and a different end. The best part is that every narrative is discrete and quite enthralling.
The books have been adapted into T.V. series and movies as well but not a single television episode can surpass the reading R.L. Stine’s work. Reading these novels is an entirely out of the world experience. After reading everyone expects a lot out of the television drama but the truth is that it stands nowhere near these awesome tales.
Goosebumps is the kind of book that every teenager, who is a fan of horror should have in his or her collection. Every book will keep you engaged till the end and it is definite that you will want more of it.
